In early 2026 we purchased a home on Venice Island in Florida. The home was built in 1969 and needed some extensive updating. Being from New Hampshire we had no idea where to even begin when hiring a contractor. In fact, we had heard some pretty scary stories from others that were let down and even abandoned by their contractors. While at a red light my husband happened to snap a picture of a contractor’s vehicle next to him. We reached out and asked them if they would meet us at our home to take a look and hear some of the ideas we had in mind. The rest was history. We knew immediately that hiring Blackwood Homes would be a good decision and we looked no further. We felt so lucky to have found Phil and Lisa. Right away we felt comfortable and knew we would be in good hands.
Phil is the kind of contractor you hope to find—honest, dependable, patient, and someone who truly cares about the work he does. He always took the time to listen to us, answer our questions, and make sure things were done the right way. We never felt like we were just another job to him. He gives you a schedule that he plans to follow. He was never once off schedule and in fact was always ahead of schedule. Our home was never abandoned by Phil and his team. From the day he started our home it was his #1 priority and it showed. Being at home in NH we were concerned things could go much differently but that never happened.
Lisa was just as wonderful to work with. She has such a great eye for design and helped me with so many decisions along the way. She listened to what we liked and helped us create a home that feels like us. I never felt overwhelmed and welcomed her ideas and knowledge. She was truly a blessing in this whole project. Our home is small and Lisa was able to open the layout of the home and create a beautiful aesthetic masterpiece.
What really stood out to us was how much Phil and Lisa genuinely cared about our home and about making us happy. They treated our project as if it were their own, and that meant a lot to us.
By the time everything was finished, we didn’t just feel like we had found a great contractor and designer—we felt like we had gotten to know two really good people.
We absolutely love our home and are so grateful to Phil and Lisa for everything they did to make it special.

Our old bathroom was totally upgraded and made more functional when they recommended adding a closet. We were hesitant but proved to be an excellent decision!
